Quick Writes Term 4

We have been working on Quick Writes. This is where you are given something to write about (a writing prompt) and you only have 10 minutes to write as much as possible using a writing prompt. For our writing prompts we will use either images or short videos

1) Fireworks

As the rough orange cloud covered the museum  it made the crowd go crazy, like they were getting chased by  acid.   But they can't move. Some people  looked at it a said it is beautiful. How did we survive the orange cloud?

2) Spider Man
IMG_1464.JPG
As I was standing in the parade with all the confetti coming from the rooftops I felt like the coolest man in the world. I could smell all the food from the houses. I was in heaven but then I smelt the rotting smell of petrol and a sour smell of smoke.

3) Tomato Pulp

IMG_1463.JPG

As the tomato juice goes everywhere the seeds are getting stuck in your toes. We are absolutely covered in tomato juice it is all through our hair. I was diving into the pulp and jumping around. If I didn't have goggles on my eyes my eyes would be in so much pain. But when it finished I ran home and had a long shower.

Quick Write Number One - The Beekeeper

IMG_1185.JPG

For the next two weeks we are going to work on ‘Quick Writes.’  This is where you are given something to write about (a writing prompt) and you only have 10mins to write as much as possible using this writing prompt.

For our writing prompts we will use either images or short videos.

The purpose of this is to practise writing fluently.

When we look at our writing prompt we will have about 10-15 mins to discuss it and brainstorm some ideas and vocabulary.

Our learning goals are to:
-write a description, using powerful words and phrases
-include some Te Reo Māori
-carefully check that our sentences make sense and have correct punctuation and spelling.

When we are writing we need to think about…

  1. What do I want my reader to see?
2) What do I want my reader to hear?
3) What do I want my reader to smell?
Tips:
-look closely at the picture or video
-think about the three key questions and the learning goals
-give yourself time to plan and write

Do your writing here

When I was walking(hīkoi) to the hive the smell of sweet sugary honey struck my nose.  I saw all the tiny rain drops slowly making their way down the fresh glimmering (hīnātore) grass. I was calm and silent when I saw the bees buzzing through the trees and diving into the hive.
