Robot Rampage

We were learning to use  strong and powerful language. We used a helpful sentence starter  to help us get good ideas. Here is my work.

Rubbish Scramble ?????

Every second day in the week there was one job Hemi hated doing: taking out the rubbish. He’d much rather be building his latest robot invention in the shed. That was it! What if Hemi could build a keretao (robot) to take out the rubbish?

So Hemi went to the shed and got his tools and started. BOOM, SMASH,I think it's  finished But at that moment the lights flickered. TING! The lights went out on the whole street. “Oh no!” Hemi realised that he had used all the power on the street and he had caused a power cut.  That's when Hemi knew it was going to be a long night and a hiamo (exciting) night.  Hemi used his dad’s old generator until the power came back on and he worked away all night.

The next rubbish day, Hemi got his keretao (robot)  named Smelly- Flat Face. First, Hemi turned Smelly Flat Face on. Then Smelly Flat Face got all the rubbish out of the house and took it to the rāpihi (rubbish) bin. While this was happening Hemi went to sleep on the couch. When Smelly Flat Face was coming back from taking out the rubbish, Smelly -Flat Face went nuts and started to go bonkers.  He was malfunctioning!         Aug 30, 2017 9:24:25 AM.jpg
What happens next? Scroll down to find out.

Suddenly, Hemi woke up and realised his robot wasn't there. He checked the whole house. Hemi started to feel curious about where Smelly Flat-Face was. He asked mum, “Mum, where's my robot?”  ‘’I don't remember it coming in’’ cried mum.  Hemi suddenly realised that his robot must have malfunctioned and gone on a rampage!

Then Hemi got his special boomerang and bat and set of to find Smelly Flat Face. Hemi’s got his special boomerang from his grandmother who lived in Australia and he knew he could use it to turn off his robot. When he whakatāuke (pushed) the door open he saw people on the ground! Smelly Flat Face had pushed them over when they had tried to stop him. Smelly Flat Face had dints in him but he was still moving slowly down the street. Hemi ran as fast as a  cheetah chasing its prey. When he got close enough he chucked the boomerang as hard as he could.  Spot on! It hit Smelley Flat Face right in the batteries and caused the batteries to explode! To finish the job Hemi smashed Smelly Flat Face with the bat.   And after that all the neighbors hated Hemi because of his horrible invention.😞

Hemi never made another robot again!
The end

Maui Legends

As part of Matariki we re-read the legends of Maui. We then retold a legend and created artwork. Below is my work.

Great Fish Of Maui

A long time ago on a big Pā site and in a big whare lived a man called Maui. Maui asked his brothers if he could go fishing and they all said NO! He got mad. So that night he snuck on to the waka and he had all his fishing gear including his magical grandmother's jaw bone and a special woven rope. He fell asleep in the waka. When the brothers pushed the waka into the water he woke up. When the waka stopped Maui jumped out and then the brothers had no choice but to let him fish. So he did a karakia and  threw the line out with the magical grandmother's jawbone on the end of the special woven rope. He felt something strong pull on the rope, it was big, it's a giant stingray which is now the North Island of Aotearoa. The brothers cut up the fish and these cuts made the hills and crevices so that is how the lakes and rivers of the North Island formed. That's the great fish of Maui.
