Buzzer Beater Game Winner

Sweat dripping down my face, Plop!
As I jump for the rebound
Crowd went silent
As I get the ball
I shoot up the court
Pounding the ball into the
Crackling wood
Boom! I pull up to the three point line
With a sceeeek from my boots
With one second to shoot
I shoot... Swish!
The crowd goes wild.

Abel Tasman and the Taniwhas

Abel Tasman and the Taniwhas

One misty morning a big, strong taniwha, named Aungarea, was playing and jumping
slowly in and out of the salty sea, showing off his red, spicy scales. He was with his best
friend, Hohoro, who was also a taniwha. but a small, black ninja like taniwha who was
showing off his silky skin. But then Hohoro saw a ginormous waka with his super vision, it
was heading towards Haast.

They swam very fast back to the village where they decided to follow the ginormous waka
all the way to Haast. Even though Hohoro and Aungarea did not understand the language of
Abel Tasman and his crew they were interested in the story and kept following them back to
the village in what is now known as Greymouth. Aungarea then said to Hohoro, “You cannot
come with me, it is too risky.” But there was no fighting back for Hohoro. Aungarea was too
strong for him.

Aungarea set off with the ship. He didn't know that Hohoro was following the ship up the
South Island, west of Nelson, where the ship stopped short of land and set anchor. That's
where Aungarea found Hohoro. He saw the tribe on shore coming so he took Hohoro to shore,
where they both saw the Māori doing a challenge.

Abel Tasman and his crew just partied all night, firing the cannons because they found people
to trade with. That night the fires were roaring and the Māori were getting ready for war. In the
morning the Māori sent their best fighters to attack but it was a misunderstanding with both
languages.

Abel Tasman sent his best dealer, with the best handshake, out to meet the fighters, plus
Aungarea and Hohoro who were helping the fighters. The dealer got slaughtered and they
went for the ship. Then the ship went back to find Australia, to balance the Earth.

No one has ever seen Aungarea and Hohoro since the attack except me. I see them every night
from my house.

Nelson Mandela

             Nelson Mandela

In class we have recently been learning about Nelson Mandela. Nelson was from a South
African village called Mvezo. The village had huts and was surrounded by a fence. He was
born in to a tribe called Xhosa, he was born into the royal family. Nelson Mandela was
born on the  18th of July 1918 and died on the 5th of December 2013.

Nelson Mandela was a fighter against apartheid and segregation. Apartheid is when there
is a discrimination on grounds of race. Segregation is when you are setting people apart
from others. In Africa in 1960 people were peacefully protesting to change the laws but the
police shot 69 people because people were trying to change the law, this is now called
the Sharpeville Massacre.

Nelson Mandela was a fighter against white supremacy and he worked with the ANC
(African National Congress). There was another organisation called the United Nations trying
to help. White supremacy is when a white person doesn't believe in equal rights for
other races or skin colours (and sometimes religions) and wants the whole world to be
white like them.

In 1962 Nelson Mandela went to Robben Island, Pollsmoor Prison for 27 years for trying to
over roll the government. That shock the government so they put Nelson into prison where
he kept fighting underground with ANC. Other countries started to stop trading with South
Africa and that put pressure on the government to make changes.

In conclusion I think Nelson Mandela was a good fighter against racism and was peaceful.

Mahatma Gandhi

In room eight we have been learning about Mahatma Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi
was born in India 1869 and got assassinated in 1948 while he was going for a
walk.   Gandhi made justice happen in his life when he stopped Indians in South
Africa from getting their fingerprints put in ink.

An eye for a eye ends up making the whole world blind. This means that if we
keep fighting it wood never stop I think that this is a true statement.
Or what I think  usually after someone gets revenge than other person doesn't
get revenge again.

I think that Mahatma Gandhi was a very good person and changed the whole
world. I think that peaceful protesting is great and it was wrong to kill peaceful
protesting people and put them in prison.

My Selfie Poem

I am from rugby league balls
from Golden State basketball and dripping wetsuits.
I am from the Seaside Top 10, fun and the fell of sea salt.
I am from driftwood washed up by the salty sea.
From West Tigers, the red flowered Pohutukawa.
I am from the sounds of exploring fantails.
From basketball courts.
I’m from celebrating Christmas and watching league in the deep couch.
From big siblings and the best mum and dad.
I’m from lazy Friday footy and pancakes at Lake Brunner.
From Steph taking me from sport to sport during the week.
I’m from mum and dad taking me to rep team training.
I’m from, “Go to swimming club.” and, “Get ready for rugby league.”
From the pages of Green Eggs and Ham and, “Leave the light on.”
I am from sport and basketball and league.
I’m from rugby league, Hardgraves.
I’m from Greymouth Hospital and a Kiwi.
Turkey and home grown steak.
From popcorn stuck up my nose, going to the hospital.
A book of photos from South Africa.

Last Day

Day and I woke up in Wellington at 6am which is very early for us so it was hard to get out of bed but I got there in the end. In Wellington at 6.30am was surprisingly busy good that we were going on the ferry. The ferry crossing was sooo flat on the ferry we watched a move so time went past fast. When Dad and I got of the ferry we drove for four hours to get to Greymouth 😃.

Day 14

We woke up in the tent in Taupo where we went to the bar in the pool for a big breakfast it was quit good. After that Dad and I drove a hour and a half to the army bass at Waiouru that we went past on the way up. One thing that I wanted to do on the way up was go into the army museum but we didn't have time. So we decided to have a look inside it was very interesting. Dad and I drove all the way to Wellington for the night because we need to get on the ferry tomorrow so we can get home.

Day13

Dad and I started today with a 40 minute drive to a lake to see Andrew and his kids, we went on the biscuit because I miss our ones. Dad and I tried to knee board on the body board, I got up for a wee bit but it was to windy and slippery. Dad hopped in to try it but on the first go he tried to get up but he snapped the board in half. After the lake we drove to Taupo where there is a camping ground that has the only pool in NZ that has a swim up bar. So we got the tent up and went for a swim the water was so warm, it was a giant pool and had jets on one end and a movie screen with speakers so we could watch a movie while swimming, there was a 4 meter deep part in a man mad cave. By the way the pool is outside, the 4 meter deep part had a treasure chest at the bottom. The bar did food so we had pizza in the pool for dinner.

We woke up in the morning to go and book a zip line trip, after that Dad and I played a game of mini golf then we went to do these things that have a giant fan to make you fly. After that we went to the zip line we drove to a native forest where we started the trip we did 6 zip lines, two walks and two swing bridges one with rails and one with no railing. The longest zip line was 220 meters long. Then we went up the gondola and went on the Luge.

Day 11

We woke up in Andrews house for the last time.Dad and I went to look at water world which is a obstacle course on the water but it was to windy to do it, it was pretty sad (fun fact: we went to a similar place to water world in Australia it was very fun) After that problem we decided to head of to Rotorua where there is lots of activities. We decided to go to OGO Zorb Ball where you get pushed of a hill onto a track Dad and I went in one together and a bit of water. Surprisingly you sat in it and you only move when you want to move. We went down a straight normal track and we went down the longest track in the world which is zige zage track. Then we went the last track and the scariest track is the fastest track in the world but when you thought it was over its not IT IS THE STEEPEST TRACK IN THE WORLD!!!!
